💳 Subscriptions & Billing
Everything you need to know about plans, payments, upgrades, and cancellations.
How Billing Works
Free Trial
All paid plans include a 14-day free trial. Your card is charged only after the trial ends. Cancel anytime during the trial with no charge.
Billing Cycles
- Monthly: Billed on the same day each month
- Yearly: Billed once per year — save ~30% vs. monthly
Payment Methods
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover) via Stripe. All payments are secure and PCI-compliant.
Managing Your Subscription
Click "Manage Billing" from your dashboard Settings to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there you can:
- Update your payment method
- Download invoices and payment history
- Update billing email
- Cancel your subscription
Upgrading & Downgrading
Upgrading
Visit /pricing and click "Upgrade". New features unlock instantly and you're charged a prorated amount for the remainder of your billing period.
Downgrading
Downgrade via the Stripe Portal (Manage Billing). You keep current features until your billing period ends, then move to the lower tier on renewal.
Feature Access: If you downgrade and lose access to features (e.g. unlimited books), your existing content remains but you cannot add more until you upgrade again.
Cancelling Your Subscription
- Go to Dashboard / Shelf → Settings → "Manage Billing"
- In the Stripe Portal, click "Cancel subscription"
- Confirm cancellation
- Your access continues until the end of your billing period
- After that, you revert to the free tier
We do not offer refunds for partial months. Your account, profile, and data are never deleted — you can re-subscribe anytime.
